Creating Self

The scrapbook of Marion Emerett Colman provides not only historical insight, but also, insight into her identity and how she viewed herself.

How do you want to be remembered?

The objects, papers, and ephemera contained in each scrapbook in this exhibit provide context to the life story of its creator. But the creation of a scrapbook is a purposefully selective process.  The “scraps” are the high points--memories worth preserving for a future self and a future audience.  The end result gives the viewer insights into the values and personality of the individual behind the scrapbook.
